Ignae
Transforming the future of natural skincare
Ignae is a clean beauty plant-based skincare brand from the Azores and rooted in biotechnology. Exclusive, natural ingredients are sourced from the pristine archipelago of nine volcanic islands. These small islands – geographically distant from many sources of pollution, and home to Marine Protected Areas – are rich with rare natural ingredients and mineral-rich thermal waters.
Understanding the development of these unique ingredients derived from the islands, we developed the strapline ‘6 Million Years in the Making’ to emphasise the products’ source materials.
Initially commissioned for digital design, the relationship grew. Planning Unit quickly became Ignae’s creative partner for product and location photography, art direction, tone of voice and overall marketing design.

With the Azores and its unique local ingredients at the heart of all Ignae products, we created an image-rich site that seamlessly tells their story, whilst also offering a user-friendly shopping experience.
6 Million Years in the Making
The Azores, formed from volcanic eruptions 6 million years ago, serve as Ignae’s natural R&D laboratory across its 9 volcanic islands. We drew on this rich history to create the strapline, which is unique to Ignae.
Building the future of skincare
The technology behind skincare is always evolving and we collaborated with the Ignae team to design their AI skin analysis tool and app. This means customers can be confident in purchasing the best products for their location and skin type.
Capturing the islands
The Azores, a unique set of nine volcanic islands in the Atlantic, is the world’s first certified archipelago by EarthCheck. Each island offers distinct microclimates and diverse vegetation.
We collaborated with photographers Frederico Martins and Saga Pinheiro to capture the islands’ unmatched character and natural beauty.
It was fantastic to work with Planning Unit for the relaunch of Ignae. They are passionate & dedicated about their work and really felt like they were part of our in-house team that’s helped us launch an award winning brand! Highly recommend them!
