Planning Unit is a brand and design studio based in London and working with clients globally — from start-ups to internationals.

‘Planning Unit deliver without ego, yet with confidence.’

We’re down-to-earth, reliable and easy to work with, while being visionary and fearless in our design.

How does it all work?

We listen to our clients to get to know their vision and understand what they’re aiming to do. Then, working together, we build unique solutions for them. Whatever form our creativity takes, we focus on achieving our clients’ goals, and using the creative to attract and take them closer to their desired audiences.

Our capabilities
  • Brand strategy

Identifying and defining the essence or core idea that makes your business unique (What makes you, You). Deciding your strengths, what distinguishes you from competitors, and how to build on that difference in branding.

  • Brand identity

Crafting distinct, memorable, and innovative brand identities that set forward-thinking clients apart in the market, and most importantly, in the minds of the target audience.

  • Brand implementation

Collaborating closely with you to implement your brand identity or develop your existing one. We ensure that your brand's development is both consistent and creative.

  • Art direction

Directing photoshoots and film which is captivating, imaginative and culturally relevant. Creating powerful visual narratives that reflect your brand.

  • Campaigns

When working hand in hand with clients, we are on hand to create campaigns and launch them into the world.

  • Digital design

Websites, social, online ads and apps are often the main output of a branding project. We can design everything or provide core pages, depending on the project. Then, we bring in an external developer to bring the designs to completion.

  • Exhibition

Working in the 3-dimensional experiential and exhibition space enables us to push boundaries and bring new ideas to these exciting formats.

  • Film titles

Titles and in-film graphics to be enjoyed on the big screen. Expressing the spirit of the piece in typography and design.

  • Iconography

Building unique icon suites that seamlessly integrate into a brand’s visual DNA. These hardworking components provide stand-out, visual recognition and clarity of message.

  • Illustration

A characterful and emotional way of expressing and informing brand identities. Illustration brings the human element to imagery, telling stories or visualising concepts.

  • Motion

Integrating motion into design components, adding extra levels of character, enjoyment and explanation. Motion allows us to bring dynamism and captivate an audience.

  • Packaging

Physical packaging can capture consumers’ attention, communicate brand values and add a sensory layer. Our packaging design comes in many shapes, sizes and guises.

  • Publications

Each and every book is different, telling its own story. They all have a job to inform, teach or simply to visually please.

  • Typefaces

Typefaces (fonts) can be incredibly influential. We have created various bespoke typefaces to help represent the voice of a client for a project.

  • Verbal Identity

Defining a unique tone of voice for your business helps express your personality and style. It should be clear and consistent across all messaging, from straplines to social.

Planning Unit is a reincarnation of co-founder Nick Hard’s grandfather’s design studio of the same name from the 1960's. The original Planning Unit was an industry leader, encapsulating 3 core principles, being building, graphic, industrial design. A revolutionary concept for its time.
